CHAPTER 23
Give your people what they actually want.
Compensation gets people through the door. What decides whether they give you their best work is something the package can't buy.
PROMPT ONE
Where are you hiring lower than you need because you've decided you can't afford the person you actually want, and is that a compensation problem or a proposition problem?
PROMPT TWO
Trust is given, not asked for. Where are you telling someone they have ownership while every meaningful decision still routes back through you?
PROMPT THREE
Think about your strongest performer. Can they point to a fence post that says they were there a year ago and they're here now, or are you assuming they can feel their own growth?
PROMPT FOUR
What would it take to make progress visible for your people the way a coach turns last week's 40 into this week's 41?
PROMPT FIVE
Your team is probably winning more often than they feel it. When did you last stop and name a specific win in a way they could actually feel?
